September Product Updates

Elementary updates include new AI agents for governance and optimization, dbt Fusion support, custom roles, signed commits, and Dremio integration.

This month’s updates bring two new AI agents, dbt Fusion support, signed commits, and custom roles — designed to help every team work more efficiently and confidently with their data.

🪄 Two New AI Agents (Beta)

Meet our third and fourth AI Agents, joining the existing Triage & Resolution and Test Coverage Agents. Together, they make Elementary a smarter partner for managing, improving, and understanding your data.

Governance & Discovery Agent

Now live on the Catalog page, this agent brings AI-powered search and governance to every user.

  • Explore your assets: Ask natural-language questions to find models, metrics, columns, owners, and dependencies — with full lineage and context.
  • Govern at scale: Writers and admins can use the agent to identify missing metadata, get AI-suggested owners, descriptions, and tags, and apply them through PRs.
  • Column-level governance: The same discovery and enrichment capabilities now extend down to the column level, keeping your metadata consistent and complete everywhere.

Optimization Agent

Available on the Model Performance page, this agent helps you automatically diagnose and improve performance.

It reviews the model’s SQL, metadata, and historical runtime to recommend code and configuration optimizations.

You’ll see an estimated time savings before applying any changes — and once approved, the agent automatically opens a PR with its suggested improvements.

🧩 dbt Fusion Support (Beta)

We’ve added beta support for dbt Fusion — dbt’s new execution engine that brings faster performance, static analysis, and improved reliability.

Since Fusion itself is still in beta, our support is too. We’re working closely with the dbt team to bridge the remaining gaps and ensure a seamless experience as Fusion reaches GA.

⚠️ Note: Some syntax changes are required for compatibility. Please review our migration notes before upgrading.

⚙️ Custom Roles

You can now create custom roles and permissions to control who sees and manages what in Elementary.

This makes it easier to open access to more types of users while still managing visibility and governance closely.

If you’d like to enable or customize roles for your organization, reach out to our team and we’ll help you get started.

🔐 Signed Commits (Enterprise)

Enterprise customers can now enable GPG-signed commits for improved security, auditability, and compliance.

Learn more in the documentation.

🧊 Dremio Integration

Elementary now supports Dremio!

If your organization uses Dremio, you can connect it directly to Elementary to monitor data quality, track lineage, view data health scores, and automate observability — all with read-only access and quick setup.
